Seasons' Change
Sep. 26th, 2007 08:41 amThe grass has gone all feathery to seed beside the road, in leaps and sprays of soft brown. The air nipped my cheeks on my bicycle ride to work this morning. Last night I put the heavy blue fleece blanket on my bed for the first time since I arrived in Uryu, and I wrapped up in my gray wool tartan scarf and hat before leaving the house today.
Sunday was the Autumnal Equinox, by the Japanese calendar, and while it may be croaking hot still in Tokyo, it looks like the seasons keep a brisk schedule in Hokkaido. The change is refreshing, so far, and I'm trying to acclimate as quickly as I can. After all, from all accounts, this is just the beginning.
