The Typhoon That Wasn't
Sep. 25th, 2005 01:01 amBefore I start writing, a disclaimer: I am telling you all about the weather here because I find it amusing, not because I am worried about it, nor because I want you to get worried about it or me. I am not in any danger. Do not get panicky about me being potentially blown away on the wind or swept into the sea. I weigh over a hundred and thirty-five pounds. The sea is miles away. Do not worry. You know who you are.
The weekend after I arrived, my host mother took me aside to show me the weather section of the newspaper. The illustration she pointed out was a map of Japan, covered with ominous concentric circles moving north. According to Host Mother, a taifuu was headed our way.
In case I wasn't clear on what a taifuu was, she cited "Texas-shu no Katrina".
( I was understandably agitated at this news... )
